What it is

A free first-person survival horror game for Windows by Finnish developer Joonas “Regalis” Rikkonen. The first version came out on April 15, 2012, and the last update, version 1.3.11, arrived in August 2018. Like the SCP Wiki, the game is released under CC BY-SA 3.0.

You play D-9341, a Class-D test subject. A containment breach throws the underground Foundation facility into chaos, and you have to find a way out while the escaped SCPs roam the halls.

How it plays

The game’s signature idea comes from SCP-173: it can only move when no one is looking at it. You have a blink meter, and every time you blink, it gets closer. Map layouts are randomly generated, so you cannot memorize the route.

Why it matters

For many fans this was the first contact with the SCP Foundation. Years of YouTube playthroughs spread it far beyond the wiki, and its versions of the creatures, especially SCP-173, shaped how later games and animations pictured them.

Endings

There is more than one way out. Ending spoiler: Which ending you get depends on whether you reach Gate A or Gate B, and on what you did on the way there.
