What it is

A free-to-play, asymmetrical multiplayer first-person shooter for Windows by Northwood Studios. It came out on Steam on December 29, 2017. It started from the setting of SCP – Containment Breach, then grew into its own game.

How it plays

Each round takes place during a containment breach at Site-02, a facility split into four zones. Players are dropped into different sides at random:

  • Class-D personnel and scientists try to escape.
  • Facility guards and the Mobile Task Force try to restore order and get the scientists out.
  • The Chaos Insurgency arrives to help the Class-D.
  • SCPs are played by other people, and they want everyone else dead.

Because the SCPs are human players, the scares come less from scripts and more from other people: a teammate who betrays you, or SCP-173 waiting around a corner because someone guessed where you would run.

Reception

Steam user reviews rate it “Very Positive,” with about 91% of roughly 200,000 reviews positive.
