Two SCP films are coming — and only one asked the wiki first

A24 is distributing V/H/S: SCP in 2027, while Neon is making its own SCP film under the SCP Wiki's license. Here is how the two differ.

In September 2026, two studios announced SCP Foundation films within about two weeks of each other. Both are horror anthologies aiming for theaters in 2027. The difference is how they treat the people who wrote the source material.

A24: V/H/S: SCP

A24 took worldwide theatrical rights to V/H/S: SCP, a new entry in the found-footage anthology series produced with Spooky Pictures and Image Nation Studios. It will be the first V/H/S film made for theaters.

The SCP Wiki said it had not been consulted. Its stories are published under CC BY-SA 3.0, which lets anyone adapt them but requires adaptations to credit the authors and carry the same license. That means no company can hold exclusive rights to the SCP universe. A24 and the producers have not responded publicly.

Neon: an untitled SCP anthology

Two weeks later, Neon announced its own SCP film. Neon contacted the SCP Wiki’s admins before the announcement and says it will release the film and related material under CC BY-SA. The Wiki thanked Neon for reaching out, while making clear that its staff are not involved in the film and do not profit from it.

Why it matters

The SCP Foundation was written by thousands of volunteers. The license is what keeps their work open to everyone, including the next fan who wants to make a game or a short film. How these two films handle it will set the tone for every SCP adaptation that follows.

We will update both work pages as cast, directors and dates are announced.
